New Delhi: The picture regarding Puducherry Assembly elections 2026 is completely clear. According to the schedule decided by the Election Commission, voting for 30 seats will be held in a single phase on April 9, while the results will come on May 4. As soon as the schedule came out, political parties increased their pace in the field.
The notification was issued on March 16. After this, the nomination round started, the last date of which was 23 March. Scrutiny took place on 24 March and candidates got a chance to withdraw their names till 26 March. After this the picture became almost clear as to who is in the field against whom.
This time the entire election will be conducted in a single phase. Voting will take place on all seats on April 9. The administration claims that preparations are complete, but the real test will be on the day when voting begins.
From Ariyankuppam to Yanam, there is competition on all 30 seats. A direct fight is visible on some seats, while at some places there is a possibility of a triangular contest. This is the reason why this time the elections are being considered a bit uncertain.
Not in Puducherry only voting will also take place in Assam and Kerala on the same day. Tamil Nadu will go to polls on April 23, while West Bengal will go to polls in two phases. But the results will come together on May 4.
In 2021, the NDA alliance had taken the lead and N. Rangasamy became the chief minister. In a 30-seat assembly, 16 seats are required for a majority, and this time the entire strategy revolves around this figure.
The political equations seem to have changed a bit. In some places local issues dominate, while in others the personal influence of the candidate can have more impact. In such a situation, instead of a straight wave, seat-to-seat competition may be seen.
At present the focus is on voting on April 9, but the real picture will be clear on May 4. Then we will know who comes to power in Puducherry.
