'Return With 118 Signatures': Governor Sends Vijay Back for Second Straight Day

Chennai: Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief, Thalapathy Vijay, who on Thursday once again met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, was turned down to form the government for the second consecutive day. Vijay's party, the TVK has emerged as the single largest party in the state Assembly elections, with securing 108 seats.

What did the Governor say?

Thalapathy Vijay on Thursday once again met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Raj Bhavan to stake his claim to form the government in the state, however was his proposal was refused, saying that "return only after securing the support of 118 MLAs," according to sources.

According o sources, the Governor has asked Vijay to return with signatures of 118 MLAs, and then only the swearing-in process will take place.

As per sources, the Tamil Nadu Governor said that, "Please come with 118 signatures. Prove that TVK has the majority, only then the swearing-in ceremony can happen."

What happen in the last meeting?

A day earlier, Vijay had met the Governor and staked his claim to form the government. At that time, Vijay had declared the support of 112 MLAs. 

Despite securing the support of fiver Congress MLAs, TVK still fell short of the majority mark of 118.

On Thursday, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol Thirumavalavan also urged Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to invite Vijay to form the government and allow him to prove his majority on the floor of the House.
