Kolkata: On Friday, shortly after announcing Suvendu Adhikari as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took aim at Mamata Banerjee. Speaking in Kolkata following a meeting of the legislative party, Amit Shah remarked that he had never witnessed a mandate quite like the BJP achieved during West Bengal Assembly Election 2026. The BJP first opened its electoral account in Bengal in 2014. Subsequently, it secured 3 seats in 2017, followed by 77 seats in 2021. Shah stated that, after 12 years, a BJP government has finally been formed in West Bengal.

He added that wherever Syama Prasad Mookerjee may be today, he would undoubtedly be bestowing his blessings upon the BJP leadership led by Narendra Modi. Amit Shah pointed out that Mamata Banerjee's party failed to even open an electoral account—meaning they won zero seats—in nine of the districts. Reiterating his earlier sentiment, he declared, "I have never seen a mandate like this." Shah added that he bows down in reverence before the people of Bengal for this outcome.

What Did Amit Shah Say About Sacrifice of BJP Workers?

Recalling the BJP's journey in Bengal—from opening its electoral account to eventually forming a government—Amit Shah paid tribute to the party workers who fell victim to political violence. He stated, "In the 2014 by-election, Samik Bhattacharya opened our account by winning the seat. In 2016, our tally rose to three; in 2021, it reached 77; and in 2026, with 207 seats, we have our own Chief Minister. As magnificent and joyous as this journey has been, the path taken to reach this point was fraught with unbearable pain. I can never forget that 321 of the BJP's saint-like workers sacrificed their lives for this victory. Apart from Kerala and Bengal, such a brutal rampage of violence has not been witnessed anywhere else. With deep emotion, and on behalf of the crores of BJP workers, I pay my heartfelt homage to the families of all those fallen workers. By making the ultimate sacrifice, your loved ones have not only strengthened our ideology but, by fortifying the borders of West Bengal, have effectively strengthened the entire nation of India."

What Did Amit Shah Say About Infiltration From Bangladesh?

Promising to make infiltration and cattle smuggling impossible, Shah asserted, "We have a government in Tripura, a government in Assam, and now our government has been formed in Bengal as well; consequently, infiltration is set to become impossible. Cattle smuggling, too, will become impossible. The Bengal government and the Government of India will transform the border into an impregnable fortress for national security." The Home Minister also lauded the Election Commission, the security forces, and the Bengal Police for ensuring a peaceful election process.

What did Amit Shah say about 'Sonar Bangla'?

"It is the responsibility of all of us BJP workers to pursue the goal of 'Sonar Bangla' and fulfil the expectations of the people of Bengal. Today, the Kavi Guru's lines are ringing true: 'The path to a Bengal where the mind is free from fear and the head is held high with pride has been paved, and Bengal is walking that path'..." said Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Why Did Amit Shah Lash Out at Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee?

Amit Shah asserted that under Mamata Banerjee's rule, the administration had become politicized, while politics itself had become criminalized. Amit Shah assured the public, "I give you my word that under BJP rule, this will not happen." He pledged that hooliganism, the practice of "cut money" (extortion), and corruption would come to an end. Amit Shah affirmed, "We will certainly realize the dream of 'Sonar Bangla' (Golden Bengal)." Amit Shah also launched an attack on Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He alleged that the Leader of the Opposition had attempted to malign the entire electoral process. He noted that if the party failed to secure a victory—whether in Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, the Northeastern states, or Gujarat—it was a matter for them to introspect upon.

What Did Home Minister Amit Shah Say?

*   Out of the 23 administrative districts, there are 9 where "Didi" (Mamata Banerjee) failed to even open an electoral account; her party has been completely wiped out in these regions.
*   Today, we have a government in Tripura; we have a government in Assam; and now, a BJP government has been formed in Bengal as well... Illegal infiltration and cattle smuggling are about to become impossible.
*   The ideological journey we embarked upon in 1950—and the path we followed under that leadership—has culminated today in the formation of that very party's government on the sacred soil of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The atmosphere that prevailed during the era of the Communists—Mamata Ji has transformed it into an atmosphere of fear. Hundreds of instances of violence and brutality stand as proof of this.

What Did Amit Shah Say About PM Modi's Contribution?

Home Minister Amit Shah stated that when Article 370 was abrogated, a wave of jubilation swept through the minds of BJP workers across the country; however, several senior workers remarked to me that there was still something left to be accomplished. I asked them, with some surprise, "What remains now?" They replied, "The task of hoisting the BJP flag in Bengal still remains." Amit Shah expressed his belief that wherever Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee may be today, he is surely bestowing his blessings upon PM Modi's leadership—for under Modi Ji's guidance, the BJP has truly reached from Gangotri all the way to Gangasagar. Amit Shah further affirmed that the BJP would liberate Bengal from the scourge of infiltration. He stated that concrete action would commence once a BJP Chief Minister assumes office. Finally, he asserted that the BJP's victory in Bengal has served to ensure national security.
