Kolkata: Following the conclusion of the campaign period for the West Bengal Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has penned an open letter addressed to the people of the state, appealing to everyone to collectively resolve to make Bengal a developed region. In the letter, he also asserted that the people of Bengal are committed to the vision of a developed Bengal.
The Prime Minister wrote in the letter that there has been enough fear; what is needed now is trust—and the BJP in the state. He further stated in the letter that a BJP Chief Minister will soon take the oath of office in Bengal. He added that everyone would come together to celebrate this swearing-in ceremony.
Tweeting the letter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “The immense affection and blessings I have received from my family members throughout the entire election campaign in West Bengal have filled me with renewed energy. Be it the youth power or the women power of this region—our farmer brothers and sisters, laborers, or entrepreneurs—everyone is committed to a ‘Developed Bengal.’ I have expressed my sentiments towards them in this letter…”
The Prime Minister also shared an audio clip, tweeting: “To my family members in West Bengal: a golden opportunity lies before you to hoist the flag of the BJP’s victory in this festival of democracy. I am confident that on April 29, you will set a new record for voter turnout. I have expressed my sentiments regarding this historic occasion through an audio message…”
With the election campaign now concluded, Prime Minister Modi has attempted to establish a connection with the people of West Bengal through this open letter. In this public outreach maneuver, he has linked his visits to Bengal during the campaign to the significant event of the 'Pran Pratishtha' (consecration ceremony) of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya. He wrote, “When the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony of Ram Lalla was held in Ayodhya in January 2024, I had observed an 11-day 'Anushthan' (ritual observance) and fasting prior to it. During this election campaign, too, I experienced the very same spiritual feeling—akin to the reverence one feels while offering prayers at a Goddess’s temple.”
The Prime Minister further added that during all his rallies and roadshows across Bengal, he received so many messages and images filled with such deep affection and a sense of belonging that he could never possibly forget them. "After rallies and roadshows, whenever I get the opportunity, I spend the night looking through those photographs with great contentment. I read your affectionate messages and your letters, and I also have my responses drafted." The Prime Minister wrote that this constitutes the true capital of his life.
Earlier, while addressing a rally in Barrackpore—in the North 24 Parganas district—on the final day of campaigning for the second and concluding phase of the elections, Prime Minister Modi launched a scathing attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress. He accused the party of running a 'Syndicate Raj,' engaging in political violence, and being responsible for the state's economic backwardness. Modi stated, "Based on the atmosphere I have sensed in West Bengal, I can confidently say that after May 4th, I will have to return once again for the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP government." This remark was met with thunderous applause from the crowd.
Citing the historical significance of Barrackpore, the Prime Minister noted that this land played a pivotal role in India's First War of Independence in 1857, and is now laying the groundwork for political change in West Bengal. Prime Minister Modi asserted that the progress of West Bengal is essential for the holistic development of India. He emphasized that the rise of the Eastern region is crucial for the nation's future.
