New Delhi: The festival of Basant Panchami 2026 is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion on Friday, 23 January. This day is dedicated to Maa Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, art, and music, and is considered a symbol of knowledge and creation in the Hindu religion. This festival, which signals the beginning of spring, is especially important among students, teachers, and artists. According to the Panchang, Shukla Paksha Panchami Tithi of Magh month will start on 23 January 2026 at 02:28 AM, and this Tithi will continue till the night of 24 January. According to calculations, the same day has been fixed for puja and main programs.
According to the IN local calendar, the most auspicious time of Saraswati Puja is considered to be from 7:15 am to noon. Meanwhile, worshiping Mother Saraswati is believed to yield positive results. The puja period will last during the day and devotees will perform religious rituals with devotion in front of the goddess throughout the day.
Basant Panchami is seen as the goddess of knowledge, art, music, and education. People believe that worshiping Goddess Saraswati on this day helps in increasing their knowledge, new thinking, and success. For this reason, special events are organized for students and educational institutions. Yellow-colored things like flowers, sweets, and clothes play an important role in puja, because the yellow color is considered a symbol of energy, hope, and positivity.

On this day, many families teach their small children to read and write for the first time or make them practice alphabets so that the child moves towards good knowledge in life.
