Spiritual News: Today, the sacred festival of Devshayani Ekadashi is being observed across India with deep reverence and devotion. According to the Vedic calendar, this Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadha. It marks the beginning of Lord Vishnu’s divine slumber (Yoga Nidra) in the Ksheer Sagar and also signals the onset of Chaturmas, a holy four-month period dedicated to spiritual discipline, self-control, and devotion.

Significance of Devshayani Ekadashi

As described in Hindu scriptures, fasting, worship, and meditation on this day cleanse one’s life of poverty, disease, and mental distress. It is believed that observing this Ekadashi with sincerity brings divine blessings and spiritual upliftment.

One of the most revered practices on this day is the recitation of the Krishna Chalisa, a devotional hymn dedicated to Lord Krishna—believed to be the complete incarnation (Purna Avatar) of Lord Vishnu.

Why Is This Ekadashi So Special?

Devshayani Ekadashi symbolizes the time when Lord Vishnu begins his cosmic sleep in the Ksheer Sagar. He remains in Yoga Nidra for four months and awakens on Prabodhini Ekadashi in the month of Kartik. This period of Chaturmas is observed as a time of austerity, devotion, reflection, and spiritual growth.

A Devotional Offering of Love and Protection

On Devshayani Ekadashi, chanting the Krishna Chalisa is considered especially meritorious. This 40-verse hymn glorifies Lord Krishna’s divine leelas—from his miraculous childhood feats, slaying of demons like Kansa, revealing the Bhagavad Gita, protecting Draupadi, to his deep friendship with Sudama.

  • The message embedded in the Chalisa resonates deeply with spiritual seekers:
  • Lord Krishna is the protector of the devoted
  • He destroys ego and arrogance
  • He is the refuge of the poor and the distressed

Reciting the Chalisa brings mental peace, focus in actions, and a sense of spiritual balance. From lifting Govardhan Hill to becoming the charioteer for Arjuna, Krishna’s life offers guidance for every stage of human existence.

Vrat and Puja Vidhi (Fasting and Worship Method)

  • Wake up early, take a holy bath, and vow to observe the fast
  • Offer yellow clothes, Tulsi leaves, fruits, and Panchamrit to Lord Vishnu or Krishna
  • Recite the Vishnu Sahasranama or Krishna Chalisa with devotion
  • Observe a water-only, fruit-only, or nirjala (waterless) fast
  • In the evening, light a Tulsi lamp and listen to the Vrat Katha (fasting story)

Devshayani Ekadashi is not merely a ritualistic fast but a spiritual festival that embodies devotion, self-restraint, and divine connection. Those who sincerely observe this day and chant Shri Krishna Chalisa experience not only material blessings but also progress on the path of inner awakening.
