Ganesh Visarjan 2026: One-and-a-Half-Day Ganpati Immersion Tomorrow, Know Auspicious Timings & Rules

New Delhi: After installing Bappa in the house on Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees bid farewell to him on different days as per their tradition. While some immerse the idol on the third, fifth or seventh day, many families immerse the idol of Ganapati within one and a half days. This year Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated on 14th September. According to the Panchang, Chaturthi Tithi in New Delhi will start at 7:06 am on September 14 and will continue till 7:44 am on September 15. In such a situation, the one and a half day long Ganpati immersion will be done on 15th September.

When will the one and a half day Ganpati immersion be done?

Families who have a tradition of bidding farewell to Bappa after one and a half days can do the immersion on 15th September. However, it is considered better to decide the time of immersion as per family tradition and local calendar. It is not necessary to have the same immersion time for all houses during Ganesh Utsav. Some people keep Ganpati in the house the next day, while some families keep it for several days.

What are the auspicious times prescribed for immersion?

• In the Muhurta given for September 15, the important time is from 12:26 pm to 1:58 pm.
• After this, the auspicious time will be from 3:31 pm to 5:03 pm.
• Immersion can also be done in the evening from 8:03 pm to 9:31 pm.
• Apart from this, another Muhurta has been given from 10:59 pm to 3:22 am on 16th September.

These times should be observed according to the local calendar, because there may be difference in Muhurta in different cities. Families performing religious rituals can confirm the timing from the almanac or priest of their area.

What to do at home before bidding farewell to Bappa?

There is a tradition of performing formal worship and aarti of Ganesha before immersion. Take bath in the morning and clean the place of worship. After this, offer flowers, Durva and naivedya to Lord Ganesha. After offering Modak and Laddus, all the family members can perform Aarti. During this time, prayers are offered to Ganpati for the happiness, peace and prosperity of the family.

Is final worship of Ganpati necessary before immersion?

The final puja and aarti before Ganpati immersion are considered important. Many families worship the idol again before taking it out of the house and pray to Bappa to come again next year. After this the idol is respectfully taken to the immersion site. On the way, devotees bid farewell by chanting 'Ganpati Bappa Morya'.

What things should be kept in mind at the time of immersion?

There is a tradition of wearing clean clothes during immersion. At the time of worship, it is advisable to eat satvik food and avoid disputes. The most important thing is the immersion of the idol. Keeping the environment in mind, immersing the clay Ganpati idol in an artificial or designated immersion pond is a better option. Flowers, garlands and puja materials should be disposed of in a different manner instead of throwing them in water.

Will all Ganpati immersions take place on September 15 only?

The one and a half day Ganpati immersion will take place on September 15, but for families who have installed Bappa for a longer period, the date will be different. Some people do immersion after three, five or seven days. The biggest culmination of Ganesh Utsav occurs on Anant Chaturdashi, which is on 25th September this year.

What is considered after immersion?

Ganpati Visarjan is seen not just as a farewell to the idol but as a symbol of Bappa's return to his abode. Devotees wish him to come home again next year.
