New Delhi: The festival of Hariyali Teej is considered very special and auspicious for the married women of Sanatan Dharma. Married women celebrate this festival, which falls on the third day of the bright fortnight of Shravan month (Sawan) of the Hindu calendar, for everlasting good luck, husband's long life, and happy married life. It is believed that on the occasion of this festival, married women observe a nirjala fast and worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with all due rituals. Let's look at why and when Hariyali Teej is celebrated and what the auspicious time and yoga of Hariyali Teej are. 

What is the auspicious time?

As per Panchang, the third day of Hariyali Teej is starting at 6:46 pm on August 14 and will end on August 15 till 5:28 pm. However, as per Udayatithi, the festival of Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on August 15, Saturday.

What is trhe auspicious Yoga?

On the day of Hariyali Teej, three auspicious yogas are forming: Shiva Yoga, Siddha Yoga, and Ravi Yoga. All three are considered very lucky. According to Drik Panchang, Siddha Yoga is from August 15 itself until August 16, 5:21 am.  Ravi Yoga is from August 16 morning till 6:19 am and until 3:25 am of the day after next. Shiva Yoga is until August 16 morning till 7:09 am. 

How to perform puja?

On the morning of Hariyali Teej, wake up and take bath. Wear green clothes and take an oath to observe the fast. 
Now prepare the idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha by using soil and placing pictures at your worship place. 
Offer women's special suhaag items to Goddess Parvati, and Belpatra, Bhaang, Dhatura and Fruits to Lord Shiva. At the end of puja, listen to or read the Hariyali Teej fast story. Light incense and perform aarti, wishing for the happiness of your loved ones. 

What to do on Hariyali Teej?

  • Gifts, money etc. can be given to the mother-in-law or elder women of the house. 
  • Planting any tree is very auspicious on Hariyali Teej. 
  • Wearing green clothes and bangles on this day is a good symbol for all.
