New Delhi: The demand for electric cars is rapidly increasing in India. As a result, car companies are preparing to introduce new vehicles that offer greater range at a lower price. When purchasing an electric car, people primarily consider its price and the distance it can travel on a single charge.

Keeping this in mind, companies are working on new models. By December this year, Hyundai and Honda are expected to launch two new electric SUVs in the Indian market. These include Hyundai's HE1i and Honda's Zero Alpha. Both vehicles are expected to have a new design and many good features. Let's learn more about both upcoming cars.

Hyundai HE1i

Hyundai is expected to launch its new small electric SUV, the HE1i, by December this year. It will compete with vehicles like the Tata Punch EV and Nexon EV. The company is developing it specifically for the Indian market. Several glimpses of it have been spotted testing. Design-wise, it is expected to feature a boxy look, split headlamps, a closed front grille, large windows, roof rails, and LED tail lamps. An LED light bar and a beefy bumper are also expected at the rear. Its appearance could be similar to Hyundai's small SUV, the Xter.

Features and range

This Hyundai electric SUV is expected to come with several impressive features. It could include an electric sunroof, a large touchscreen, a digital driver's display, ventilated seats, automatic climate control, and leather-trimmed seats. Safety features like ADAS are also expected. Battery options include a 42 kWh and a 51.4 kWh battery. Both battery packs are claimed to deliver a range of 450 to 500 kilometers or more on a single charge. However, the company has not yet disclosed its price and range.

Honda Zero Alpha

Honda is also preparing its first electric SUV for the Indian market. Currently, it's known as the Zero Alpha, but its name may change at launch. It will be a mid-size electric SUV and will compete with vehicles like the Hyundai Creta Electric. Testing is underway in various parts of the country. Design-wise, it's expected to feature a boxy look with a new and distinct styling. The company will try to distinguish it from other electric SUVs. Its cabin could feature a large touchscreen, a digital driver's display, button controls, and ventilated seats.

Features and range

This Honda electric SUV could feature features like a panoramic sunroof or a large glass roof, leather-like seats, and Level-2 ADAS. For safety, it could also include six airbags, ABS, and EBD. It could be equipped with a battery pack ranging from 65 kWh to 75 kWh. On a single full charge, the SUV can travel approximately 450 to 500 kilometers in real life. However, the company has not yet revealed its price, launch date, or complete battery details.
