New Delhi: Mahindra is offering attractive discounts on its lifestyle Thar SUV this month (July). Benefits of up to ₹1.40 lakh are available on the vehicle. The company is offering distinct discounts for the Thar and the Thar Roxx. A total benefit of up to ₹1.40 lakh is available on the Thar Roxx AX7 L 4WD diesel variant. Savings of up to ₹1.20 lakh apply to the MX5, AX5 L, and AX7 L variants. Entry-level variants—such as the MX1 diesel and MX3 petrol—offer benefits of up to ₹45,000. Meanwhile, several diesel trims offer a cash discount of up to ₹90,000 in addition to scrappage and accessory offers.

Compared to the Thar Roxx, the standard Thar has fewer offers this month. A scrappage benefit of up to ₹20,000 is available on two-wheel-drive (2WD) variants, while four-wheel-drive (4WD) versions get an additional cash discount of ₹20,000. Consequently, total benefits amount to ₹20,000 for the 2WD model and ₹40,000 for the 4WD variants. The ex-showroom prices for the Thar range from ₹10.32 lakh to ₹18 lakh, while the Thar Roxx is priced between ₹12.52 lakh and ₹23.53 lakh.

What are Features and Specifications of Thar Roxx Base Variant?

The MX1 is the base variant of the Thar Roxx. This trim comes with impressive features, though full details regarding the complete feature list are yet to be revealed. The Thar Roxx will also come equipped with robust safety features. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, generating a maximum power of 162hp and peak torque of 330Nm. It also offers an alternative diesel option: a 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 152hp and peak torque of 330Nm. Both engines will be available with a manual transmission.

Regarding safety features, the Thar Roxx comes equipped with a camera-based Level-2 ADAS suite. Other safety features include disc brakes on all four wheels, six airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, TCS, TPMS, and ESP. To facilitate off-roading, Mahindra has included Crawl Smart Assist (CSA), Intelli-Turn Assist (ITA), and an electronically locking rear differential. Overall, these features make it a highly advanced SUV.

Thar vs. Thar Roxx: What are Style and Color Options?

There are no drastic changes to the Thar Roxx's design, though it does feature a new front grille. Even the base variant of the Roxx comes with C-shaped LED DRLs, as well as LED headlamps and tail-lamps. The side profile stands out thanks to a new diamond-cut alloy wheel design, longer and wider running boards, and squared-off rear wheel arches. The addition of a rear quarter glass also distinguishes the Roxx from the 3-door Thar.

With its larger dimensions, the Roxx commands a striking presence on the road. It is approximately 300mm longer than the 3-door Thar model; specifically, the Roxx measures 443mm longer than the standard Thar. It is also wider and taller, and boasts a longer wheelbase. The Roxx is offered in a total of seven color options, whereas the standard Thar is available in five.

What are Features and Specifications?

In terms of features, the Roxx is significantly ahead of the 3-door model. The Roxx features a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated seats, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. It boasts an enhanced digital cockpit with twin 26.03cm digital screens and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Safety has been bolstered for both the driver and passengers; side and curtain airbags are standard across all variants. The Roxx also comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS.

What are Powertrain and Transmission?

The Mahindra Roxx offers one diesel and one petrol engine option, whereas the Thar offers two diesel and one petrol option. Its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines deliver higher power and torque outputs compared to the 3-door Thar. The 2.0-litre petrol engine is available in three states of tune: 152 PS/330 Nm, 162 PS/330 Nm, and 177 PS/380 Nm. The diesel engine delivers either 152 PS/330 Nm or 175 PS/370 Nm. Both engines offer a choice between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

In the 3-door Thar, the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 118 PS and 300 Nm and is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2.2-litre diesel engine delivers 132 PS and 300 Nm, while the 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 152 PS and 300 Nm. The transmission options for these two engines are the same as those found in the Roxx.
