New Delhi: Nissan has officially unveiled the Terrano concept at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. This iconic model from the company is making a comeback with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The company has not yet disclosed its technical specifications; however, judging by its appearance, it appears to be based on a robust ladder-frame architecture. Nissan has confirmed that the production version of the Terrano concept will be launched within a year. The company also plans to introduce three additional NEV models in China within the same timeframe.

What is the look of the Nissan Terrano?

In its new avatar, the Nissan Terrano presents itself as a boxy, rugged-looking SUV featuring distinct off-roading elements. It sports robust body cladding, a substantial lower bumper, large windows, and clean, simple surfacing. Its design appears to be inspired by the Land Rover Defender—particularly its rear section. On the flat rear profile, the spare wheel mounted on the tailgate is encased within a thick bar that serves as a connecting element between the LED tail-lights. It also features a side ladder to facilitate access to the roof rack. It is worth noting that the production version may differ from the concept model.

When Will Nissan Tekton Launch in India?

Nissan is gearing up to launch its new SUV—the Tekton—in India. According to reports, this SUV could be launched as early as June of this year. This upcoming SUV from the company will serve as the successor to the Terrano. Through teaser images, Nissan has already revealed almost the entire exterior design of the vehicle. With its high ground clearance, impressive bodywork, and modern design elements, the Tekton promises to strike a fine balance between the characteristics of a classic, rugged SUV and a modern-day vehicle. The front fascia of the SUV will feature sleek, rectangular headlights integrated with angular DRLs connected by a distinct light band. Two horizontal slats will span the width of the radiator grille, extending to meet the headlights. Additionally, the bonnet will feature power domes, and the bumper will sport a remarkably sharp design.

Inside, the cabin will showcase a modern yet rugged theme, blending a contemporary layout and design across the dashboard, door panels, and center console with a robust, tough aesthetic. Furthermore, the company intends to offer 15 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Adaptive Cruise Control, a 360-degree camera setup, and six airbags as standard features. The Tecton is expected to be available with a 1.0-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, as well as a 1.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine, which will be mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission featuring a wet clutch.
