New Delhi: The Renault Duster nameplate is going to make a formal comeback in the Indian market after a gap of several years. The India debut of the new-generation Duster is scheduled for 6 pm today. This event has been kept specifically for India and is not being considered as a global unveiling.
The company will use this platform to clarify Duster's design philosophy, segment positioning and its strategy in India. Information like price and variants will not be shared yet, but this presentation will definitely give an indication of what role Renault wants to play in the Indian market through this SUV.
The new-generation Duster is built on the CMF-B modular platform. The same platform is being used in many models of Renault and its alliance brands in international markets. This architecture improves safety standards. The body structure becomes stronger than before. The facility to support different powertrain options is also considered a specialty of this platform.
The new Duster will be positioned in the mid-size C-SUV segment in the Indian market. In this segment, it will compete directly with popular SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The company has already indicated that Duster will form an important part of its product portfolio in India.
Renault's new global SUV design language has been adopted in the new Duster. The round and soft lines of the old model will no longer be visible. Instead, a straighter body, square shape, and rugged look will be seen. The international preview shows elements like Y-shaped LED lights, raised wheel arches and a strong shoulder line. The same design cues are expected to be seen in the India-spec model as well.
The interior of the new Duster will be completely changed. A new dashboard layout can be given. There is a possibility of getting a large touchscreen infotainment system. The digital instrument cluster may also be standard this time. The focus of features will be on connectivity and everyday convenience. Features like wireless smartphone connectivity and automatic climate control may be included.
The company may give special attention to safety this time. A package of advanced safety features can be offered in the new Duster. A glimpse of technology like ADAS can also be seen in today's presentation. However, the complete safety list will be clear closer to the launch.
The new Duster in India will come with a petrol-based powertrain. This may include turbo-petrol and hybrid options. These options will be based on the 1.3 liter turbo-petrol unit already used in other markets. There are no plans to include a diesel engine in the Indian lineup as of now. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are expected to be available. The option of all-wheel drive can also be given in some variants.
Today's India debut will be limited to design, platform, and segment positioning. Variant-wise features and prices will be announced later. The company will clarify through this presentation how the new Duster fits into its future strategy in India.
