New Delhi: With the festive season beginning in India, car companies have accelerated their preparations to meet growing customer demand. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Mahindra have begun increasing their production capacity and stockpiling vehicles at dealerships. Their goal is to convert as many bookings as possible into timely deliveries and minimize waiting periods for cars.
Maruti Suzuki has pending bookings for approximately 2.2 lakh cars. The company has increased dealer inventory to 16 days ahead of the festive season. At the beginning of FY27, this inventory was approximately 12 days.
Maruti is making 5 lakh more cars
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki India, stated that the company has commissioned two new production lines, increasing the total production capacity by 500,000 units. Production on these new lines is being gradually ramped up and is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.
The company is managing production and supply based on demand for different models, ensuring that waiting times for any particular model don't increase significantly. If supply shortages persist, the company may also introduce special offers for customers with pending bookings.
Hyundai has 4 to 5 weeks of stock
Hyundai India has built up a four to five week stockpile across its dealer network. The company has improved logistics and increased vehicle availability. Hyundai MD and CEO Tarun Garg stated that the company's focus is on striking the right balance between fulfilling existing bookings and maintaining adequate stock at dealerships.
Mahindra also increased production
Mahindra, on the other hand, has increased its manufacturing capacity for SUVs and EVs to 68,000 units per month. The company says that despite strong demand, the increased production has improved supply and reduced waiting times for several models. Car purchases in India typically increase during Navratri, Dussehra, Dhanteras, and Diwali. Therefore, companies are preparing to deliver cars to as many customers as possible on time during this time.
