New Delhi: The last month of 2026, December, is shaping up to be quite exciting for the Indian automobile market. Several new cars and SUVs are set to enter the market in December 2026. These include the new-generation Toyota Fortuner, the Volkswagen Virtus facelift, Honda's first electric SUV, and JSW's new plug-in hybrid SUV. Some of these have already been confirmed, while others have yet to be confirmed. Let's take a look at these four upcoming vehicles.
Toyota is scheduled to introduce the new-generation Fortuner on December 1, 2026. However, its India launch is expected next year. The new Fortuner is expected to feature major changes to its exterior and interior. Its design could be inspired by the new-generation Hilux. It could feature a larger front grille, slim headlamps, new bumpers, a tall bonnet, and connected LED taillamps. The cabin is expected to feature features like a large touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and ADAS. Engine options are expected to include a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel mild hybrid and a 2.7-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both engines could be offered with manual and automatic gearboxes.
According to a Cartoq report, Volkswagen is expected to launch a facelifted version of the Virtus sedan in December. It could feature a new grille, updated headlamps and taillights, and revised bumpers. The cabin is expected to feature a more refined finish and new features. It could include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, an updated infotainment system, and improved ambient lighting. Engine options are expected to remain the same. The 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine produces 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque. The 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine will produce 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The biggest change is expected to be a new 8-speed automatic gearbox with the 1.0-liter engine. The 1.5-liter engine is also expected to receive a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
Honda will introduce the production model of its first electric SUV to the Indian market on December 2, 2026. It will be based on the Zero Alpha concept. However, its final name has not yet been revealed. Design elements such as a thick C-pillar, a nearly upright rear, and a straight tailgate are expected. Its battery specifications haven't been officially revealed, but it's likely to feature a 65 to 75 kWh battery pack. The company may offer a front-wheel drive setup. It will compete with existing electric SUVs like the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara.
JSW Motors is set to launch its first SUV in early December. It will be based on the Jetour T2 sold internationally. It is expected to launch in India under the name JSW Combat. It will feature JSW branding and some changes to suit the Indian market. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version is also expected in India. It is expected to feature a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine, two electric motors, and an 18.4 kWh battery. Its combined power output is reported to be 360 PS and 610 Nm of torque. If these figures remain in the Indian version, it could even challenge SUVs like the Fortuner in terms of sheer power.
