Toyota Vellfire surpasses Kia Carnival sales, leaves market amazed

New Delhi: In the country's premium MPV segment, there are two cars that only a limited number of people can afford. This is due to their prices ranging in the lakhs and crores. In the report for the first 10 months of the financial year 2026, the Toyota Vellfire has surpassed the Kia Carnival in this segment. Significantly, the sales difference between these two cars is almost double. The Vellfire has seen growth on a year-on-year basis. The Vellfire's starting ex-showroom price is ₹1.38 crore, while the Carnival's ex-showroom price starts at ₹59.42 lakh. Despite this, the Vellfire remains in high demand.

How does Toyota Vellfire compare with Kia Carnival?

The Vellfire's impressive sales are proof that high prices don't deter customers. Its two variants have on-road prices of ₹1.38 crore and ₹1.49 crore in Delhi. This XL-sized MPV sold 1,114 units in the first 10 months of the current financial year, a 41% increase YoY (April 2024-January 2025: 790 units). This puts it just 41 units short of FY2025 sales (1,155 units) and brings its total sales since launch to 2,669 units.

On the other hand, the larger and more luxurious Kia Carnival sold 732 units during this period, an 18% decrease from last year. The model's on-road price in Delhi is ₹75.62 lakh. In the last six months of FY2025, 1,361 units were sold. Launched in October 2024, the Kia Carnival (Limousine) carries forward the legacy of its predecessor, the Kia Carnival. Additionally, it features enhanced features to further improve passenger comfort. This large diesel-powered MPV delivers excellent comfort and flexibility, ensuring its occupants are thoroughly pampered.

What are Toyota Vellfire features and specifications?

The Toyota Vellfire Strong Hybrid model features a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder DOHC engine, producing a maximum power output of 142 kW and a peak torque of 240 Nm. The engine is paired with an electric motor and hybrid battery, resulting in lower emissions. The self-charging Strong Hybrid Electric model is claimed to be capable of operating in zero-emission mode for 40% of the distance and 60% of the time. The company claims a fuel economy of 19.28 km/l.

It is offered in three exterior color options: Platinum Pearl White, Jet Black, and Precious Metal. The Vellfire has three interior color options: Sunset Brown, Neutral Beige, and Black. This luxury MPV has become more spacious due to the increased seating distance. The driving position has been updated to increase the distance between the front and second-row seats. The side quarter trim and rear door trim on the third row of seats have been made thinner.

Inside, there is a very long overhead console, mounted in the center of the roof. It houses numerous controls for passenger convenience. It features 15 JBL speakers, a 14-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The Executive Lounge 14-inch rear seat is very comfortable. The model features automatic moonroof shades and pull-down side sun blinds, which block excessive sunlight from the roof. The second-row seats also have a massage function and pre-set modes.

The model now comes equipped with over 60 connected features, including remote door lock/unlock, air conditioning, emergency services, vehicle diagnostics, and driver monitoring alerts. This Toyota model is also equipped with safety features like Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Other safety features include cruise control, lane trace assistance, high beam LED headlamps, and blind spot monitoring.
