Bihar: A major train accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Arrah Junction in Bihar. Two bogies of Mahananda Express going to New Delhi via Ara Junction via New Jalpaiguri-Katihar derailed. The accident occurred at around 4:10 am on the upline near West Gumti of Arrah railway station.
According to preliminary information, two general coaches adjacent to the engine of the train derailed. As soon as information about the incident was received, there was panic in the railway administration. Officers and technical staff immediately reached the spot and started taking stock of the situation.
According to preliminary information received from the Railways, the bogies of Mahananda Express derailed on the upline of Ara Junction at around 4:10 am on Sunday morning. The location of the accident is said to be near West Gumti of Arrah Railway Station, around 593 Km 9A.
As soon as information about the accident was received, officials of Danapur Railway Division were informed. The technical team from Danapur Control was also sent to the spot.
Preliminary information has revealed that two bogies of Mahananda Express have derailed. It is being told that both the coaches are general coaches fitted just behind the engine. After the accident, the train was stopped on the up line and railway teams reached the spot.
At present, no final information has been revealed by the Railways regarding the reasons for the accident. The technical team is checking the condition of the track and train.
After the derailment of Mahananda Express, the operation of trains on the Delhi-Howrah main railway section has been affected. The work of removing the accident bogies and repairing the track has been started.
Concerned Railway teams have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and technical work. Efforts are being made to vacate the track as soon as possible and normalise rail traffic.
After receiving information about the incident, railway officials, technical staff and railway police reached the spot. The technical team from Danapur Control was also sent to Arrah. Officials inspected the accident site and started assessing the situation.
Along with removing the derailed bogies, the work of inspection and repair of the track is also being done by the Railways.
At present the exact reason for the accident is not clear. The technical team of railway officials is investigating the cause of the accident. The actual reason for the derailment is expected to be revealed only after investigation of the track, train and other technical aspects.
At present, no definite time has been given by the Railways regarding when the railway operations will become completely normal. The work of removing the accident bogies and repairing the track is going on. Only after the completion of both these processes will operations on this railway section be likely to become completely normal.
Railway administration may issue further information as per the situation regarding the operation of the affected trains.
