Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi the young teacher made a choice. He decided to carry the bride in a bullock cart of a luxury car. I saw how the simple invitation and the modest wedding plan drew a lot of attention across Nawada.
A wedding in Bihar’s Nawada district has grabbed everyone’s attention. It’s not because of cars or grand decorations. It’s because of the meaning behind the celebration. While most weddings today are filled with luxury and noise this young teacher chose something. He chose simplicity.
The groom, Ehtesham Raza brought his wife, Zakara Aqil to the village in a flower-decorated bullock cart on October 16. The wedding took place in Nawada. When the groom and bride arrived in the village of Marui people stopped. They talked. They were struck by the sight.
The bullock cart was not the thing that made the wedding special. The wedding invitation also stood out. It carried the words ‘Bapu Sang Kasturba’. It showed the groom’s respect for Mahatma Gandhi and his wife, Kasturba Gandhi. It was more than words. It was a statement. A quiet rebellion against excess. A return to values.
People, in Nawada are still talking about it. Not because it was flashy. Because it was real. Because it was humble. Because it reminded them of what matters.
Ehtesham Raza is a private school teacher from Marui village in the Roh block of Nawada district, Bihar. He decided to bring his bride home in a bullock cart to reconnect with traditional rural culture and promote a simple approach to marriage.
Instead of choosing a luxury vehicle, Ehtesham opted for a traditional mode of transport decorated with flowers. He arrived wearing a white sherwani and a traditional turban, while his bride, Zakara Aqil, wore a red bridal outfit.
Their arrival surprised villagers, who gathered to welcome the newly married couple. Men, women and children from different communities followed the bullock cart to the groom’s home, turning the occasion into a memorable village celebration.
One of the parts of the wedding was the invitation card. The card looked ordinary. Ehtesham chose the words "Bapu Sang Kasturba" to show how much he respects Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi.
The groom said that he looks up to Gandhi’s life and the ideas that Gandhi stood for. He loves to call his wife Kasturba. She calls him Bapu. This special way of talking to each other made the words on the wedding invitation very meaningful.
This choice made the wedding feel more personal, than the way things are done. It also showed how much the couple likes each other and how much they admire Gandhi’s beliefs.
Ehtesham thinks weddings shouldn’t turn into a race to spend money show off expensive cars or throw huge fancy events. He made his choice to inspire people to celebrate marriage simply without spending too much.
He also spoke about avoiding dowry and cutting down on spending. In his view a wedding can still be special with decisions, family involvement and honoring cultural customs. No need, for costly setups.
His decision to use a bullock cart showed his wish to keep rural ways alive. It also stood for a more eco-friendly way to celebrate.
Zakara Aqil is the daughter of Akiluzzama, a person who lives on Muslim Road in Nawada. As per reports she has finished her graduation in Amritsar. Has also done training, in fashion designing.
Both Ehtesham and Zakara are said to be 22 years old. Their marriage was set up by their families. The couple decided to have a celebration that showed their own values and their culture.
The couple arrived in Marui village. There was a big crowd. Hundreds of people including family members, people who live in the village and students came to welcome them.
People, from religious groups came together to see this special arrival. A lot of them were surprised when they saw the bride being taken home in a bullock cart instead of a fancy car.
The wedding quickly became something people talked about in the area. The couples simple way of doing things made the local people like them more.
Ehtesham Raza and Zakara Aqil’s wedding is special because it blends rural customs with a simple message. The flower‑decorated bullock cart and the invitation that says ‘Bapu Sang Kasturba’ show the groom’s beliefs, about wedding.
When big expensive weddings usually get the spotlight this wedding shows a view. Their story shows how a wedding becomes memorable when choices are made with care.
