Patna: In view of the Lok Bhavan march of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), a major change was made in the traffic system of Patna on Wednesday. Due to the march led by Tejashwi Yadav, vehicular movement was stopped on many major roads of the city and traffic was diverted on some routes. Tejashwi was also detained during this march. There was a ban on movement of vehicles from Patna Junction towards Dakbungla intersection from 9 am till the end of the programme. During the march, the situation became tense between the protesters and the police around Dak Bungalow and Income Tax Golambar.
According to the traffic police, vehicles going from Patna Junction towards Dakbungla intersection were sent through alternative routes. Gandhi was also stopping the movement of commercial vehicles around the grounds. Autos and e-rickshaws going from Bhattacharya intersection on Exhibition Road towards Gandhi Maidan were not allowed to proceed. Whereas autos and e-rickshaws going from SP Verma Road towards Gandhi Maidan were allowed to go only till Swaminandan Tiraha.
A ban was imposed on the operation of autos and e-rickshaws on Buddha Marg from Chhajjubagh to TN Banerjee Path, from Police Line to Bank Road and from Police Line Tiraha to Kotwali-T. Traffic was also diverted on the road leading from Income Tax intersection towards Mandiri drain. Apart from this, arrangements were made to stop autos and e-rickshaws going from Danapur to Gandhi Maidan via Rajapur bridge at Police Line Tiraha.
RJD MP Misa Bharti and a large number of party leaders and workers joined Tejashwi Yadav in the Lok Bhavan march. The march started from JP Golambar. Tricolors were also seen in the hands of the workers. In view of the march, security arrangements were made in advance by the police and administration.
During the march, RJD workers broke the barricade installed by the police at Dakbungla intersection. After this the protesters moved towards Bailey Road. Tejashwi Yadav was also seen crossing the barricade and moving forward. Due to the presence of a large number of workers at the spot, traffic was affected and there was a traffic jam in the surrounding areas.
Police used water cannon near Income Tax Golambar as the protesters advanced. Despite this, RJD workers continued moving forward. Later Tejashwi Yadav and other leaders were detained by the police. According to latest reports, several RJD leaders and workers including Misa Bharti were also detained.
This march of RJD was organised against the government in Bihar on issues related to students and youth and alleged exam paper leak and employment questions. The party kept it as a protest against the government. Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav had alleged that students were being stopped from coming to Patna and there was a possibility of excessive use of force by the police during the march.
Due to the march, traffic remained affected in major parts of Patna. People faced problems especially at Patna Junction, Dak Bungalow, Gandhi Maidan, Income Tax Golambar and surrounding routes. The traffic police had appealed to the people to use alternative routes. Traffic on these routes became completely normal only after the march ended and the movement of protesters became normal.
