In such a situation, this is the last opportunity for employee organizations, unions and pensioners to register their demands.

Who has got the right to send suggestions?

The Commission has allowed central government employees, pensioners, employee organizations, unions, defense personnel, officers of all India services, and various government departments to send their suggestions and demands. Based on these suggestions the commission will finalize future recommendations.

Which issues are being raised prominently in the memorandum?

Issues related to minimum wage, fitment factor, adjustment of dearness allowance, pension revision and other service conditions are being raised prominently by the employee organizations. Many organizations have also put forward the demand for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) before the Commission.

Why are most eyes fixed on the fitment factor?

The biggest discussion regarding the 8th Pay Commission is regarding the fitment factor. Employee organizations have made different proposals. The fitment factor will decide how much the existing basic pay will increase. This is why lakhs of employees are waiting for the upcoming recommendations of the commission.

What is the process for sending suggestions?

The Commission has clarified that memorandums will be accepted only through online medium. Documents sent through email, hard copy or any other means will not be valid. Interested parties will have to register their views in the prescribed format on the official website of the Commission.

What will happen next?

After receiving the memorandum, the commission will hold meetings with various states and employee organizations. Counseling programs have been scheduled in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal in June and July. During these meetings the demands of employees and pensioners will be discussed in detail.

Why are employees waiting for the commission's recommendations?

The recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission will affect lakhs of central employees and crores of pensioners in the country. There has been curiosity among employees for a long time regarding possible changes in salary, allowances and pension.
