Business News: Adani Group is going to write a new chapter in India's aviation sector. This group, which has been active in the construction and management of airports till now, is now preparing to step into a very important and technical service like ground handling. The plan to bid for ground handling at Mumbai and Ahmedabad airports is being considered a major strategic turning point for Adani Airport Holdings.
Turkey's famous ground handling company Celebi Hawa Services recently ended its business in India. Celebi was providing its services at a total of 9 major airports in the country, including hubs like Delhi and Mumbai. During the growing tension between India and Pakistan last month, Turkey openly supported Pakistan, due to which Indian policymakers indirectly questioned the future of Celebi. As a result, Celebi was forced to leave India. After this decision, the way has been cleared for the Adani Group to provide ground handling services in these major airports.
Ground handling is the pillar of the aviation sector on which the safety, convenience, and reliability of the flight depend. It includes all the processes before and after the flight takeoff, such as baggage transfer, cleaning, boarding, customer assistance, and aircraft turnaround. By entering this sector, Adani Airports will not only expand its business but will also play an important role in improving the quality of services by increasing competition.
As per the rules of India, three ground handling companies can work at airports that have more than 1 million passengers annually. Big airports like Mumbai and Ahmedabad are already associated with two companies. Now with the exit of Celebi, Adani has a strong opportunity as the third player.
To give more strength to this new direction, Adani Airports has also raised a foreign loan of $ 750 million (about Rs 6200 crore). International banks like First Abu Dhabi Bank, Barclays, and Standard Chartered have participated in this funding. The company will use this amount to refinance old debt, upgrade airports, and make necessary infrastructure investments for passenger convenience.
At present, Adani Airports operates seven major airports, where a total of 9.4 crore passengers arrived in the year 2024-25. The company plans to triple this number to 30 crore passengers by 2040. Its biggest base is going to be Navi Mumbai International Airport, the first phase of which is going to start soon.
The Adani Group has once again proved that it is one of the fastest-growing aviation companies, not just in manufacturing but also keeping in mind technical services, financial strategy, and future passenger requirements. This new flight in India's aviation sector can now go a long way.
