New Delhi: The impact of increasing tension in the Middle East and the crisis around the Strait of Hormuz is now falling directly on the pockets of the common people. After the continuous increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, now CNG has also become expensive. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) increased the price of CNG by Rs 1 per kg in Delhi-NCR. This is the third increase in the last 10 days. After the implementation of new rates, CNG has crossed Rs 80 per kg for the first time in the capital Delhi, due to which the concern of auto, taxi and commercial vehicle drivers has increased.

Have continuously rising prices increased people's problems?

CNG prices had earlier increased by Rs 2 per kg on May 15 and by Rs 1 per kg on May 17. Now after another increase, CNG is being sold at Rs 81.09 per kg in Delhi. In Noida, Ghaziabad and Greater Noida, its price has reached around Rs 90 per kg. Even in Gurugram, people are forced to buy expensive CNG. The continuously increasing prices have increased the problems of both the daily commuters and the drivers.

Can public transport fares also increase?

Thousands of autos, taxis and buses run on CNG in Delhi-NCR. In such a situation, the cost of fuel can directly impact fares. Taxi and auto unions say that it is becoming difficult to drive at the current fares. Drivers say that a major part of their earnings is now being spent on fuel. If relief is not provided soon, the demand for fare increase may become more intense.

Did India's import bill also increase rapidly?

India's average crude oil basket has also become costlier in the last few months. While its price was around $69 per barrel in February, now it has reached $113 to $114 per barrel. Experts say that if the international situation does not become normal soon, then further increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and gas may be seen in the coming days.

Have transport unions started taking to the streets?

Transport unions and commercial drivers are protesting in Delhi-NCR against the continuously rising fuel prices. Many organizations have demanded the government withdraw the increased prices and revise the fares. Unions say that due to continuously increasing costs, drivers are facing a crisis of livelihood. If no decision is taken soon, the movement may become bigger.
