New Delhi: There has been no change in the prices of petrol and diesel across the country just a day before August 15. Government oil companies have kept fuel prices at the same level for Friday, August 14. That means, if you are going to fill petrol or diesel in your car today, then you will have to pay as per the previous rates.

Despite the fall in crude oil prices in the international market, its direct impact on domestic pumps is not visible at present. The oil market is also keeping an eye on the ongoing turmoil in West Asia and the ongoing efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

How much are petrol and diesel per litre in Delhi today?

In the capital Delhi, petrol is being sold at Rs 102.12 per litre, while diesel is being sold at Rs 95.20 per litre. There has been no change in the prices of either of the fuels today.

What is the price in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai?

Why did the price not decrease despite crude oil being cheap?

The price of Brent crude in the international market remains around 87 dollars per barrel and a decline of about 2.2 percent was recorded in the last trading session. Despite this, there has been no relief in the retail prices of petrol and diesel in the Indian market.

The price of domestic fuel does not depend only on the price of crude oil. It also includes the exchange rate of rupee and dollar, taxes of central and state governments, refining costs and other expenses.

Who decides the price of petrol and diesel?

Three government oil companies play a major role in the retail sales and prices of petrol and diesel in India. These include Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

Oil companies usually release new prices of petrol and diesel every day at 6 am. However, sometimes companies do not change the prices and the old rates continue.

Can petrol and diesel become expensive in future?

The direction of the international oil market will remain under watch in the coming days. Tension in West Asia, situation related to Iran and movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz may impact crude oil prices.

At present, on August 14, motorists have not had to face any new price increase in the domestic market. But if there is a big change in the global market, it may also affect Indian fuel prices in the coming days.
