New Delhi: A major update has been announced regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate, NEET (UG) 2026 exam. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday said that from next year, the NEET (UG) exam will be conducted online, using a computer-based testing (CBT) pattern.
To alleviate the fear and uncertainty that candidates may have regarding the NEET (UG) 2026 re-exam, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced various relief measures.
Following the incident of the NEET (UG) paper leak, the government is focused on ensuring that students experience minimal mental and financial stress.
Stressing on the difficulties for the students, Dharmendra Pradhan said that the NEET (UG) exam, scheduled for June 21, is not just a test, but also an attempt to win back the confidence of candidates.
Understanding the practical difficulties of candidates, the government has not only allowed them to change their exam city but has also discussed arranging transportation, such as buses and trains, with the states.
The NTA has taken it upon itself to ensure that the financial burden of retaking the NEET (UG) 2026 exam does not fall on students or their families. Furthermore, in light of the scorching June heat and pre-monsoon rains, special arrangements are being made at examination centers to ensure that the weather does not overwhelm candidates' hard work. Various arrangements are being made to this end.
For the NEET re-exam scheduled to be held on June 21, the admit card for all candidates will be issued by June 14, the minister said.
The NTA has alleviated a major concern for candidates who had left their coaching centers and returned home. Candidates will now be given a week's time to choose an exam city of their choice. If a candidate was previously in Kota and is now in Mumbai or Patna, they can choose a city closer to their location. This window will open soon, and based on this, NEET (UG) admit cards will be issued by June 14.
To reduce mental stress for candidates, a major change has been made to the timing of NEET (UG). An additional 15 minutes of time will now be provided for the NEET exam. The NEET (UG) exam will now run from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. This extra time will help candidates read the paper thoroughly and answer without panicking.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the examination fees paid by students will be refunded.
“We will return the fees of the students. Zero fees in the upcoming examination,” he said.
The biggest relief comes in transportation. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has stated that the central government will work with state governments to ensure that candidates do not face any financial burden in reaching the examination center. Efforts are underway to arrange buses or special trains for candidates to easily reach the center. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that the fees will remain the same and the agency will bear any additional expenses.
The NEET UG re-exam is being held at the end of June. Heat and unexpected rain are also considered major challenges. The government has clarified that weather-related arrangements will be made at NEET UG exam centers. In view of the possibility of rain or inclement weather, centers have been instructed to have backup plans in place to ensure candidates do not face any inconvenience while taking the exam.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's statement that the NTA is currently in the hands of a highly competent person is a reassurance to candidates who were dissatisfied with the system. The government's commitment to student welfare, while taking a firm stance against the mafia, clearly demonstrates its focus on a "zero tolerance" and "student first" approach.
