New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) has released the entrance exam pattern and syllabus for its direct admission to PhD programs for students who have completed a four-year undergraduate program. This program is for students who completed a dissertation, academic project, or entrepreneurial work in their fourth year of undergraduate studies but have not passed a national-level exam, such as UGC-CSIR NET or GATE. The university has also established eligibility criteria, minimum CGPA, score distribution, and interview criteria for the exam. The exam date will be announced later.
Only students who have completed eight semesters under the University Grants Commission's Curriculum and Credit Framework (UGCF-2022) will be eligible for DU's admission process. A minimum CGPA of 7.5 is required for general category candidates. A minimum CGPA of 7 is set for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates. Additionally, students must have completed a research dissertation, academic project, or entrepreneurial work in their fourth year of undergraduate studies. Students who have solely completed translation work will not be eligible on this basis.
The PhD entrance exam will carry a total of 100 marks and will be completed within two hours. The exam will consist of two parts. The first part will focus on research methodology, while the second part will cover questions from the relevant subject. Each part carries 50 marks. An incorrect answer will result in a 25% deduction from the corresponding question's assigned marks. Therefore, candidates must prepare carefully and answer the questions carefully.
General category students must score at least 50 percent in the entrance exam to be eligible for the interview. For reserved categories, this threshold is 45 percent. In the final selection, 70 percent weighting will be given to the entrance exam marks and 30 percent to the interview. Candidates will also be required to submit a report on their research or project before the interview.
DU has established research methodology courses for different disciplines. Candidates in Commerce, Humanities, Social Science, Psychology, and Home Science will have a syllabus based on their respective disciplines. However, candidates in Science, Mathematics, Electronics, Information Technology (IT), and Computer Science will have a separate syllabus.
Candidates should prepare by reviewing the syllabus according to their subject category. The university will release exam dates and other instructions regarding the application process at a later date. Candidates should regularly check the official DU website for updates.
