QS Rankings 2027: IIT Delhi Leads India, DU and JNU Make Strong Global Gains

New Delhi: IIT Delhi, JNU, and Delhi University have emerged as the world's top universities. The QS World University Rankings 2027 has released its new rankings, placing IIT Delhi at the top among Indian universities. IIT Delhi has retained its position as the country's highest-ranked university, ranking 118th globally. IIT Delhi's ranking is the highest ever achieved by an Indian institution in this prestigious global index.  

How many Indian institutions are there in the QS World University Rankings 2027?

QS Quacquarelli Symonds released its latest rankings on Thursday, featuring 52 Indian universities, making India the fifth most represented higher education system in the world. India's representation has increased by 271 per cent since 2017, with the number of institutions increasing from 14 to 52.

What about India's education sector?

India's higher education sector has made significant progress in the QS World University Rankings 2027. More than half of the country's universities have improved their global rankings. Fifty-two Indian institutions have been included in this ranking. It's worth noting that IIT Delhi, which was ranked 123rd last year, has achieved a significant improvement this year, achieving 118th place. It has become the highest-ranked Indian institute in this latest ranking. 

IIT Delhi tops the rankings

IIT Delhi's brilliance is being recognized because its ranking is equal to the highest ever achieved by an Indian institution in the history of QS rankings. The QS World University Rankings 2027 also brings good news for other major institutions in Delhi. Delhi University (DU), JNU, and Jamia Millia Islamia have maintained their dominance. DU has risen from last year's 328th rank to 322nd.  

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has also improved its ranking. It was ranked 558th last year but has now improved to 555th globally. JNU has been ranked 15th among Indian institutions in the QS World Rankings. 

Did DU and Jamia gain global recognition?

Jamia Millia Islamia in South Delhi is also among the top-performing institutions. Jamia has improved its academic standing by leapfrogging from the 761-770 band to a global rank of 686. Among Indian institutions, Jamia has been ranked 20th.

IIT-Delhi, DU, JNU and Jamia dominate

The latest QS World University Rankings indicate a very positive trend for Indian higher education. Universities across the country are successfully establishing themselves globally. This is being seen as a major step towards India establishing itself as a global education hub. The world is watching the performance of institutions like IIT-Delhi, DU, JNU, and Jamia Millia Islamia.
