BJP releases fourth list of 13 candidates for West Bengal Assembly Elections, one candidate changed

This fourth list includes the names of 13 candidates. The name of one candidate announced in the second list has also been changed.

Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released its fourth list of 13 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, and has also changed the candidate for the Maynaguri 
constituency. 

What is there in the fourth list?

This fourth list includes the names of 13 candidates. The name of one candidate announced in the second list has also been changed. According to the list, Dalim Roy, who has replaced Kaushik Roy, will now be the BJP candidate for the Maynaguri (Scheduled Caste) Assembly constituency. 

Who all are there in the list?

According to this new list of BJP, Ashutosh Barma has been given ticket from Sitai (SC), Girija Shankar Roy from Natabari, Soma Thakur from Bagda (SC), Uttam Kumar Banik from Magrahat Purba) and Debangshu Panda from Falta. 

Debashish Dhar from Sonarpur Uttar, Santosh Pathak from Chowrangee, Shyamal Hati from Howrah Dakshin, Ranjan Kumar Pual from Panchla, Piyush Kantil Das from Chandipur, Pradeep Lodha from Garbeta, Manav Guha from Memari, and Arijit Roy from Barabani will be the BJP candidates.  

How many candidates have been declared so far?

The BJP has released the name of a total of 287 candidates for the Assembly elections in West Bengal till now. The party announced 144 candidates in its first list, 111 names in its second, and 19 in its third. And now, the party has announced 13 names in its fourth list. 

The BJP's candidates so far include several prominent figures, including Suvendu Adhikari, Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Swapan Dasgupta, Nisith Pramanik, Roopa Ganguly, Jitendra Kumar Tiwari, and Koustav Bagchi. The BJP has renominated Rekha Patra, who rose to prominence after the Sandeshkhali violence. She is contesting from Hingalganj. Additionally, the BJP has fielded R.G. Kar victim's mother from Panihati seat.

When are the elections?

The state will conduct elections in two phases, on April 23 and April 29, with counting of votes for both phases scheduled for May 4.
