Mumbai: Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor has shared a harrowing experience from her teenage days, revealing how her photos were morphed and posted on obscene websites during the school days. The actress said that incident left her deeply traumatised and feeling embarrassed at school.
While speaking on Raj Shamani's podcast, Janhvi recalled the horrifying moment from her school days when she first saw her morphed photos.
Sharing about the incident, when the actress was 15-years-old, Janhvi said, "I don't know if it was a deepfake, but it was something like that. I saw a picture of me on a porn site."
Janhvi also revealed that the incident happened during her IT class in school.
The actress further recalled the moment and said that "We had IT class in school, and boys used to go on those sites for fun. My pictures were on there. And this was in school. So that was a weird experience. This happened when I was still in school, which was a very scary experience for me."
Describing about the uncomfortable atmosphere, Janhvi said that she tried to rationalize it.
While sharing, Janhvi became a little emotional and said, "At one point, I thought maybe this is the price you have to pay. There is no morality in a lot of these things with social media."
Janhvi said she's not at peace with the unregulated world of social media.
"I am not at peace with it. There are visuals of me out there, even shared by official news pages, which are completely AI. I have never worn those clothes or been photographed like that," she said.
The actress explained that even today, fake AI-generated photos and videos are circulating in her name, often shared by news pages. These photos show her in clothing and poses she's never worn.
Revealing how this affects her work, Janhvi said, "It gets circulated as if it's something I've put out. That creates a certain kind of impression. If tomorrow I tell a director I'm not comfortable wearing something, someone can pull up those pictures and say, ‘But you've done this before.' Even if they don't say it, it makes you think."
Janhvi believes that morality has eroded on social media, and this cyber abuse still hurts her.
On the work front, Janhvi was last seen in the Shashank Khaitan-directed film 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari'. The film starred Varun Dhawan, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf in lead roles alongside Janhvi.
The actress will next be seen in the pan-India film 'Peddi' alongside South superstar Ram Charan. This will be her second South Indian film after 'Deevra'.
