Fans of the Marvel world are in for a surprise as Jon Bernthal, well-known for playing the Punisher, is set to appear in the next Spider-Man movie titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to the American Magazine, Bernthal will join Tom Holland, who returns as Peter Parker, in this much-awaited next chapter in the Spider-Man franchise.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is scheduled to start filming in England, London, during this summer of 2025. The official release date is scheduled for next year on 31 July, 2026. While much detail about the story is still a secret, fans are excited to see Bernthal's gritty character brought to the big screen.
Tom Holland will reprise his role as the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, while Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are also expected to return as MJ and Ned, respectively. Another exciting addition is Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, though her character and the size of her role are still unknown.
According to the American Magazine, some rumours suggest that the new Spider-Man film might feature several villains and even different versions of the Hulk. However, none of these reports have been officially confirmed by Marvel.
Jon Bernthal previously played Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, in Netflix's Daredevil series and later starred in a solo series centred on the character. Known for his brutal style of justice using weapons and hand-to-hand combat, Bernthal’s Punisher is a fan favourite. His return to the Marvel fold adds a gritty and serious edge to the upcoming Spider-Man film.
Interestingly, Bernthal and Holland have worked together before. While filming the movie Pilgrimage in 2017, both actors were preparing for their Marvel roles and helped each other with audition tapes. Now, years later, they are reuniting on a much bigger stage.
