‘Some Love Stories Transcend Time’: Karan Johar Reflects on 19 Years of 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna'

Directed by Karan Johar, nearly five years after 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', the 2006 film tells the story of Dev (Shah Rukh Khan) and Maya (Rani Mukerji), who come across each other in the middle of their failing marriages. While they try to help each other to save their marriages, Dev and Maya end up falling in love, leading to much drama in their lives.

Indian filmmaker and producer Karan Johar is celebrating the 19th anniversary of 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna'. Johar has a third film as a director. On Social Media Platform, Instagram, he posted a heartfelt note along with behind-the-scenes clips from the busy streets of New York.

He also shared a series of photos with the cast and crew. The video featured Karan talking about scenes with Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Abhishek Bachchan, and Amitabh Bachchan, as well as light-hearted moments of the team enjoying themselves during breaks.

Karan shared his deep fondness for the movie in his caption, saying that some love stories remain powerful no matter how much time passes, and for him, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is one of them. He recalled that it was his third film and spoke about the privilege of working with such amazing people to bring to life a story that was bold, courageous, and filled with emotion. The comments section was flooded with praise from fans, while fashion designer Manish Malhotra, who appeared in the behind-the-scenes clips, wrote, “Memories for life… New York.

Story and release

Released in 2006, almost five years after Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, the film tells the tale of Dev (Shah Rukh Khan) and Maya (Rani Mukerji), who meet while dealing with troubled marriages. In trying to help each other fix their relationships, they unexpectedly fall in love, which leads to major turns in their lives.
