New Delhi: Mouni Roy has had enough of staying quiet. The actress, known for her roles in Naagin and Gold, has been going through a lot lately. Her split from Suraj Nambiar earlier this year opened the floodgates on social media. People suddenly had opinions about everything. Her clothes, her posts, who she was spending time with. And somewhere in all that noise, rumours started circulating that she was gay.
During a recent interview, when asked about the biggest rumour she's ever faced, Mouni didn't dodge the question. She said people have been calling her gay for a while now, mostly because of pictures she posts with her female friends. Close photos, vacation pictures, and girls' nights out. Apparently that was enough for people online to make up their minds. Mouni seemed more amused than angry about it. She laughed it off but made her position clear that she's not a gay, and reducing her friendships to something they're not is just wrong.
Mouni also spoke about the tough phase she went through. After her marriage hit a rough patch and she separated from Suraj, it was her family and close friends who kept her going. She said she feels lucky to have people around her who show up no matter what. Her female friends in particular played a big role in keeping her emotionally strong during that period. She said real friends are the biggest support in life and their value only grows in difficult times.
Mouni laughed while addressing the rumours directly. She said her life has always had strong and supportive women in it. She believes every woman should have friends like this. People who lift you up in good times and bad are the genuine friends. But she was clear about the stand. People can think what they want about her closeness with her friends. She is not a gay. She said it is simply wrong to look at genuine friendship through that lens.
For the record, Mouni and Suraj Nambiar got married in 2022. After nearly four years together the two decided to part ways mutually.
