New Delhi: Malayalam cinema is in mourning after veteran actor and production controller Kannan Pattambi passed away on Sunday night. He was 62 years old.
Pattambi died at around 11:40 pm on January 4 while being treated for a kidney-related illness at a private hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala, his brother, well-known filmmaker Major Ravi, confirmed.
Kannan Pattambi was a familiar face in Malayalam films and also worked behind the scenes as a production controller. Born in Pattambi in Palakkad district, he built a long career in the industry, appearing in more than 20 films and managing production on several projects.
He was the younger brother of Major Ravi, a retired Indian Army officer turned director and actor. The siblings shared a close bond, both personally and professionally.
Major Ravi shared the news on Facebook, writing in Malayalam that his brother had passed away late on Sunday.
In his post, he said Pattambi had “left for his heavenly abode” and requested prayers. The filmmaker also confirmed that the funeral would be held at their home in Njangattiri, Pattambi, at 4 pm on Monday.
News of Pattambi’s death has drawn condolences from colleagues and fans across the Malayalam film community. Those who worked with him remember him as a dedicated professional who made a mark both on camera and off.
