Mumbai: Legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday, passed away today at the age of 92. The singer's funeral will take place on Monday at 4 pm at Shivaji Park.
Asha Bhosle died of multi-organ failure, the family and hospital management said.
On Sunday, Asha Bhosle's son Anand Bhosle confirmed the news of her death and said, "She is no more. My mother passed away today. People can pay their last respects to her at 11 am tomorrow at Casa Grande, Lower Parel, where she lived. Her last rites will be performed at 4 pm tomorrow at Shivaji Park."
The singer's body will be kept for public viewing at her home in Lower Parel at 11 am on Monday.
The last rites of Asha Bhosle will be performed on Monday at Shivaji Park in Dadar at 4 pm, the same place where her sister Lata Mangeshkar was also cremated.
Asha Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday after her health suddenly deteriorated. Asha Tai, who has been spreading the magic of her voice for six decades, was under the supervision of doctors.
On Saturday, Zanai Bhosle, who is the granddaughter of Asha Bhosle, informed that legendary singer had been hospitalized due to extreme exhaustion and chest infection.
Taking to Instagram, Zanai shared a photo with her grandmother and wrote, "My grandmother, Asha Bhosle due to extreme exhaustion and suffering a chest infection has been admitted to hospital and we request you to value our privacy. Treatment is ongoing and hopefully everything will be well and we shall update you positively."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday also expressed deep grief over the passing of legendary singer Asha Bhosle, calling her one of India’s most iconic and versatile voices.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle Ji, one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known. Her extraordinary musical journey, spanning decades, enriched our cultural heritage and touched countless hearts across the world. Be it her soulful melodies or vibrant compositions, her voice carried timeless brilliance. I’ll always cherish the interactions I’ve had with her. My condolences to her family, admirers and music lovers. She will continue to inspire generations and her songs will forever echo in people’s lives.."
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also condoled the death of legendary singer Asha Bhosle and said that she not only carved out a unique identity with her "sweet voice" and "unparalleled talent", but also enriched Indian music further through her melodies.
Taking to Instagram, Amit Shah shared pictures with Asha Bhosle and wrote in Hindi, "Today is a sorrowful day for every Indian, and especially for every music lover like me, as our beloved Asha Bhosle ji is no longer among us."
