New Delhi: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Thalapathy Vijay was briefly caught off guard by a large crowd at Chennai Airport late Sunday night. The actor was mobbed by fans who rushed forward to greet him as he walked toward his car. In the chaos, Vijay lost his footing and momentarily fell before being helped up by security, according to reports.
Vijay had just returned from an event in Malaysia, the 'Jana Nayagan' audio launch of his upcoming film, which drew huge attention overseas. A video showed fans cheering and pressing in as he stepped off his vehicle. Security personnel worked quickly to clear a path and escort him safely out of the crowd.
There were no signs of serious injury, and aides confirmed Vijay was unhurt. Sources say the situation lasted only a few moments before order was restored.
Local television also reported a minor incident involving his convoy inside the airport, though officials have not confirmed details yet.
Vijay's appearance at the audio launch of his upcoming film in Kuala Lumpur on December 27 reportedly attracted a massive turnout, with some estimates placing attendance at around 1 lakh people. Vijay struck an emotional note while addressing the packed venue.
"When I entered the cinema, I thought I was building a small sand house here. But you all have built me a palace. Fans helped me build a fort… That's why I've decided to stand for them. For the fans who gave up everything for me, I'm giving up cinema itself," the actor said.
'Jana Nayagan', directed by H Vinoth, will hit theatres on Pongal 2026.
