Washington: United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday rated the American military's performance in the war with Iran as "about a 15" on a scale of 10 and said that the campaign against Iran had achieved rapid progress in less than a week.
While speaking to reporters during a roundtable on the Ratepayer Protection Pledge at the White House on Wednesday, Donald Trump said that the US campaign against Iran was performing beyond expectations.
Trump also said that the US and its allies were gaining the upper hand in the conflict.
While talking to the technology executives at the White House, Trump said, "We're doing well on the war front, to put it mildly. Somebody said on a scale of 10, where would you rate it? I said about a 15."
Trump said that US forces had performed beyond expectations in the opening days of the conflict.
"We're going to continue to do well. We have the greatest military in the world by far and that was a tremendous threat to us for many years. Forty-seven years they've been killing our people and killing people all over the world and we have great support," he said.
The US President further added that Washington was now in a commanding position as Iranian leadership figures continued to be targeted during the military strikes.
"We're in a very strong position now, and their leadership is just rapidly going. Everybody that seems to want to be a leader, they end up dead," Trump said.
As the war entered its fifth day, The US President said Trump that military strike was aimed at stopping Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
"Their arsenal of ballistic missiles is being wiped out rapidly. When crazy people have nuclear weapons, bad things happen," he said.
"I think if we didn't do it first, they would have done it to Israel and give us a shot if that was possible. If we didn't terminate one of the worst deals ever made, the Obama nuclear deal - I call it the Obama nuclear deal - where he gave everything to Iran, including a nuclear weapon - it was a road to a nuclear weapon - bad things would have happened four years ago. 'Cos they would have had a weapon four years ago if I didn't terminate that deal," he added.
The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) has reported of 1,097 civilian deaths and over 5,000 injuries so far in the war that began in the early hours of Saturday morning.
