New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said that no one can predict what will happen next in the Middle East conflict and said that the global consequences of the Iran war could be as severe as the Covid-19 pandemic.

What did Putin say about the war?

While addressing business leaders at a major economic forum in Moscow, Putin said that the conflict has already disrupted logistics, production, and supply chains, and has increased pressure on the hydrocarbon, metal, and fertilizer sectors.

"The armed conflict in the Middle East is increasingly impacting the current situation and causing significant disruption to international logistics, manufacturing, and supply chains," Putin said.

Did Putin also talk about consequences?

Russian President also warned that the global consequences of the Middle East conflict may be impossible to predict.

"It’s still hard to predict the consequences of the conflict in the Middle East with any confidence," said Putin.

Did Putin compare the Middle East crisis with Covid-19?

Putin said that the countries involved in the war cannot predict what lies ahead.

"It seems to me that even those involved in the conflict are themselves unable to foresee them, Putin said, adding that they are being compared to the Covid-19 pandemic, which globally impacted life and slowed down growth.

What about oil?

Hopes for a peace deal between the US and Iran appear to be fading. This is why oil prices rose 5 per cent on Thursday. International benchmark Brent North Sea crude rose 5.2 per cent to $107.54 per barrel, while the main US oil contract, West Texas Intermediate, rose 4.9 percent to $94.71 per barrel.

Trump again warns Iran?

US President Donald Trump warned Iran of dire consequences if it did not abide by the agreement.

The US administration led by President Donald Trump has offered Iran a 15-point ceasefire plan. In response, Iran has presented five conditions of its own to the US.
