Andy Burnham To Replace Keir Starmer As UK PM; Britain's Seventh Prime Minister In 10 Years

London: Andy Burnham took office as Britain's new Prime Minister on Monday, becoming Britain's seventh Prime Minister in the last 10 years. He has promised major changes in the country's political and administrative system and said that his government will focus most on the everyday problems of the people, such as inflation and poor public services.

Former Prime Minister Keir Starmer presented his resignation to King Charles after delivering a farewell speech outside 10 Downing Street. Former Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham then met with the King and formally assumed the role of Prime Minister.

Keir Starmer resigned as UK Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party, stating that there was a question within his party whether he was the right person to lead the party into the next general election. 

Burnham, 56, comes to power at a time when Britain is grappling with numerous challenges, including slow economic growth, poorly performing public services, and infrastructure problems. In addition to taking charge of the government, he will also have to form his new cabinet.

Burnham's first major challenge after becoming Prime Minister will be forming his cabinet. The appointment of a Finance Minister will be particularly keenly watched, as differences between the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister have previously hampered several governments.

Energy Security Secretary Ed Miliband was previously considered a strong contender for the position, but now Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is being considered the frontrunner. Shabana is a Pakistani-born politician. However, Burnham has said he hasn't finalized his team yet and should ignore speculation.
