Islamabad: The Pakistan Army has recently conducted a large-scale anti-tank drone exercise in the areas bordering India. The discussion regarding this exercise has also intensified because Pakistan's Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Asim Munir, himself reached the spot to see it. The exercise, conducted in fields near the border, has further deepened the already existing tension in the area.
In the video that surfaced, it is clearly seen that Asim Munir, along with his senior military officers, was watching the exercise with full attention. Training was given to attack targets like tanks and armored vehicles through drones. This exercise indicates that the Pakistani Army is placing more emphasis on modern warfare preparations, where the strategy of targeting heavy weapons without directly fielding troops is being adopted.
This drone exercise was conducted in an area that is very close to the Indian border. A day before this, Asim Munir had also visited the cantonments of Gujranwala and Sialkot of Punjab province. Both these cities are also adjacent to the border. Military activities around the border for two consecutive days are being considered different from normal practice, and that is why many questions are being raised regarding it.
During the inspection of cantonments, Asim Munir, while addressing the soldiers, said that in modern war, accuracy and timely information are most important. He reviewed the preparedness of the army and stressed being alert in the current situation. In view of the already tense relations between India and Pakistan, his visit is being considered more important than a normal inspection.
Experts say that after the four-day clash between India and Pakistan in May, the activities of the Pakistani Army have increased near the border. Drone exercises and continuous monitoring are considered to be part of this changed attitude. The Pakistan Army is focusing on strengthening its preparations in the areas adjacent to India.
After the recent creation of CDF, Asim Munir's power has increased more than ever in Pakistan. After coming to this post, he not only seems to be more active, but his statements regarding India and Afghanistan have also been quite strict. On several occasions he has even mentioned nuclear weapons.
Asim Munir has said that if there is an attack from the Indian side, a strong response will be given by Pakistan, and such a war will be very destructive. Between such statements and increasing military activities near the border, the question is whether this is just a strategy to create pressure or the situation may become more serious in the coming days.
