Iran: The situation in West Asia has become very serious. Iran's state media has officially announced that the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died in joint air strikes by the US and Israel on March 1, 2026. Tehran initially denied these claims, but government agencies later confirmed them, calling him a "martyr."
Following the attack, the Iranian government declared 40 days of national mourning and seven days of public holiday across the country. Security has been tightened in the capital Tehran and several other cities.
It is being said that on the morning of Saturday, February 28, Khamenei's residence and office complex in Tehran were targeted in the attack. This action was part of a joint operation between America and Israel.
US President Donald Trump described it as a big and well-planned operation. He said that the purpose of this campaign was to weaken Iran's military capability and top leadership. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also issued a statement claiming Khamenei's death.
Immediately after the attack, Iran had denied the reports and said that the supreme leader was safe. But hours later, state news agencies announced that the 86-year-old leader had died.
Israeli officials claim that his body was recovered from the debris. However, independent confirmation of these claims has not yet emerged.
Donald Trump posted on his social media platforms that Khamenei was "one of the worst people in history" and that he could not escape US intelligence. He also wrote that this is an opportunity for the Iranian people to take back their country.
Trump further claimed that many members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard and other security forces are not in favor of continuing the fighting and want "immunity." He warned that the bombing would continue until peace was established in the area.
The confirmation of Khamenei's death has created new uncertainty across the region. Many questions have arisen regarding the balance of power within Iran. Will new leadership emerge immediately, or could the country become mired in internal turmoil?
On the other hand, America and Israel are calling it a big strategic success. But analysts believe that its impact will not be limited to Iran only. Tension has already increased in many countries of the Middle East. The situation is changing rapidly. The coming days will decide whether this development will stop here or push the region towards another big conflict.
