Dhaka: Bangladesh Police says that no concrete clue has been found yet about the main suspect in the murder of youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi. This information was given in an emergency press conference organized at the Home Ministry on Sunday. This statement of the police has come at a time when Hadi's party, 'Inquilab Manch,' had given a 24-hour ultimatum to the interim government a day earlier and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
Additional Inspector General of Police Khandekar Rafiqul Islam said that the search is on for Faisal Karim Masood, who is said to be involved in the firing. According to him, police and intelligence agencies are continuously investigating possible targets. However, till now no concrete information has been received regarding the last location of Faisal.
The police have rejected this suspicion for now. Officials say there is no credible information to prove that the accused has gone out of Bangladesh. The investigating agencies are investigating the matter from every aspect.
After Hadi's death, a major symbolic change was seen in Dhaka University. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hostel has now been renamed as ‘Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi Hall.’ The organization of students living in the hostel removed the old nameplate at the main gate and installed a new one.
Sharif Osman Hadi was counted among the emerging young leaders of Bangladesh. He took part in the movement last year, which played an important role in the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. On December 12, he was shot in the head by masked assailants during an election campaign in Dhaka's Bijaynagar area. He was taken to Singapore for treatment, where he died six days later.
After Hadi's death, incidents of violence, protests, and vandalism were reported in many parts of Bangladesh. Angry students also painted over the graffiti of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the hostel building.
According to the leaders of the Dhaka University Central Students Union, the decision was taken on the collective demand of the students. Hall Council Vice President Muslimur Rahman clearly said that keeping in mind the sentiments of the students, the nameplate was removed and a new name was installed.
