Washington: Trump once again claimed that he had ended the growing tension between India and Pakistan. Speaking at the press conference, he said that his initiative led to a ceasefire between the two countries, which saved the lives of 3 to 5 crore people.

How did the tension increase?

In May last year, a terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians were killed. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor and attacked the hideouts of terrorists inside the border of Pakistan. After this action the situation between the two countries became very tense. The situation remained serious for about three-four days, in which air strikes and missiles were fired from both sides. Some reports said that many planes were also shot down during this period.

Did India accept Trump's claim?

Trump has claimed many times in the past that he played a role in ending India-Pakistan tension. But India has clearly refused every time. India's stand has always been that the two countries resolve any issue related to Pakistan amongst themselves. No third party is needed. The Ministry of External Affairs and Prime Minister Modi have also clearly said that the ceasefire happened directly between the armies of the two countries at the DGMO level, there was no foreign pressure or mediation.

What else did Trump say?

In this press conference, Trump claimed that he had stopped a total of eight major conflicts, which also included the India-Pakistan issue. He said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan praised him and said that his efforts saved the lives of crores of people. Trump also said that he convinced both countries by threatening trade and tariffs, which stopped the fighting.

What did Trump say about the Nobel Peace Prize?

Referring to the Nobel Peace Prize, Donald Trump expressed regret that despite establishing peace on such a large scale, he did not receive this honor. He said that Norway controls the award, and he has raised the issue several times before. Trump described himself as the “President of Peace” and claimed that no one in history had done a better job of stopping war than him.

What is India's stand on the entire issue?

India has consistently said that issues related to India and Pakistan are bilateral. The government has rejected Trump's claims before and this time too no official acknowledgment was made. India's clear message is that its action against terrorism was independent and there was no external interference.
