India US relations:  US President Donald Trump once again made strong allegations against India and called the trade relations a 'one-sided disaster'. Posting on social media on Monday, he said that India had earlier proposed to reduce the tariff to zero, but now it is a step taken too late. Trump's statement came at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese Prime Minister Xi Jinping. Trump claimed that India has long imposed high tariffs on the US, due to which American businesses faced difficulties in selling products in India.

India-US Trade Ties Imbalanced

In his post, Trump wrote that India sells a huge amount of goods to America and America is its biggest customer. But in return, America is able to sell very few goods to India. He said that this trade relationship has been unequal and unfair for decades. He further said, "India has imposed such high tariffs, which are the highest in the world. Because of this, American businesses are not able to compete in India."

Claim to offer to reduce tariff to zero

Trump also mentioned New Delhi's alleged proposal which India has already rejected. He said that India has now offered to reduce the tariff to zero, but it is too late. They should have taken this step years ago. Now the situation has changed. Trump also added in his statement that people should seriously consider these facts.

Recent US move

The US recently imposed a 25 percent tariff on India, citing trade imbalance as the reason behind it. But the dispute did not end here. India refused to cut oil trade with Russia, after which the US imposed another 25 percent tariff. In this way, the total tariff on Indian goods reached 50 percent.

Impact on India-US relations

Experts believe that such statements by Trump can further increase trade tensions between the two countries. While India has already termed the US allegations baseless on several occasions, the US's continuous tariff hike can create problems for Indian exporters. Both India and the US are big trading partners and are economically dependent on each other. In such a situation, such sharp statements will not only affect economic relations, but can also create tension at the diplomatic level.
