International News: US President Donald Trump has announced the biggest legal step ever against the country's leading newspaper, The New York Times (NYT). Trump said that he is going to file a defamation suit for $15 billion, i.e., about Rs 1.32 lakh crore, against the newspaper. He gave this information on the social media platform and made a serious allegation against the New York Times of spreading false propaganda against him for a long time.
Donald Trump wrote on social media, "Today I have decided to file a defamation suit of $15 billion against The New York Times. This newspaper is one of the worst media institutions in America. It has now become the virtual mouthpiece of the Radical Democratic Party and has been spreading false and misleading news against me for decades."
Trump alleged that the New York Times has published countless false news stories not only against him but also against his family, business, MAGA (Make America Great Again) campaign and the whole of America. He says that this is not just wrong journalism but a well-planned conspiracy.
This controversy is not new. Trump and his Republican Party have long been accusing the New York Times of bias towards the Democratic Party. During the US presidential election, the Republican Party had accused the NYT of supporting Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
During the election campaign, Kamala Harris's pictures were often printed on the front page of the newspaper. At that time, Republican leaders had termed it "the biggest illegal election campaign ever" and raised questions about the fairness of the election.
Trump also said in his post that not only the New York Times but also other big media houses like ABC, Disney, 60 Minutes, and CBS are also constantly spreading false and misleading news. He alleges that these institutions are running a united propaganda campaign against him, which is tarnishing his image. All this is completely unacceptable and illegal. I will file a lawsuit in Florida regarding this matter," Trump wrote.
After this big announcement of Trump, there has been a stir in American media and political circles. If this case is filed, it will be one of the biggest defamation cases filed against the media in the history of America. Experts believe that this case will not only deepen the confrontation between media and politics but can also affect the political environment. Now all eyes are on how the New York Times and other media institutions will face this challenge and what decision the court will give in this high-profile case.
