Donald Trump meets Pakistan's PM Sharif: Amid the ongoing tariff tension with India, US President Donald Trump met Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army chief Asim Munir in the White House on Thursday.

Ahead of his meeting with Pakistan's PM Sharif and Asim Munir, Donald Trump praised the visitors and called them ''great leaders.''

Trump, talking to the reporters, said, “We have a great leader coming, the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Field Marshal. Field Marshal is a very great guy, and so is the Prime Minister, both, and they’re coming, and they may be in this room right now. I don’t know, because we’re late."

Notably, Pakistan's PM Sharif met Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly along with the senior officials from Islamic nations. The meeting was in connection with strategies to end the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Their meeting is making headlines as it was held just after the trade deal between the US and Pakistan and after their meeting at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Growing ties between US and Pakistan

The growing ties between the two nation is quite noteworthy as Pakistan was earlier called as the “a terrorist safe haven" and has deceived the US. Not just this, Pakistan’s army chief has visited the US earlier as well and even nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump's agenda with Pakistan

According to a senior State Department official, US is working with Islamabad to counter-terrorism and increase trade. Talking to the news agency, Reuters, the US official said, “The president remains focused on advancing US interests in the region, that includes through engaging with Pakistan and their government leaders.”
