Johannesburg: At the G20 summit held in Johannesburg, member countries issued an important joint declaration, which clearly stated that no nation can expand its borders on the basis of force, threat, or military action. This is being considered a strong message amidst the many ongoing conflicts and increasing geopolitical tensions in the world. The declaration also reiterated that all countries should respect the UN Charter and resolve disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful means.

What issues were emphasized in the declaration?

The G20 document acknowledged that today's world faces challenges such as instability, economic inequality, and supply chain fluctuations. In these circumstances, any kind of aggressive expansion policy can endanger global peace. This is why the declaration appealed to stick to the basic principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and humanity.

Expressing concern over increasing conflicts across the world, especially border disputes, airspace violations, and drone activities, the countries said the use of force should be limited to self-defense only and for no other purpose.

Is this message meant for any particular country?

Although no country was named in the announcement, international analysts are linking it to the activities of countries like Russia, Israel, and Myanmar. In recent years, global concerns have emerged over issues such as the Ukraine war, the Gaza conflict, and military repression in Southeast Asia. Many member countries had earlier also said that respect for international rules is necessary to avoid the situation of world war or major conflict.

What role did India play in this discussion?

During the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out India's vision of development, security and cooperation. He said that the global system should be such that it takes every person and every nation along. Modi referred to the concept of “Integral Humanism”, in which humans and nature are seen as an integrated unit.

He placed special emphasis on food security, climate action, digital innovation and Africa's emerging potential. Modi said the G20 should pay attention to the needs of developing countries and raise their voices strongly at international forums.

What could be the global impact of this announcement?

After this joint declaration, a message has been sent to the world that the international community will not accept border changes and aggressive expansionism. This document can become a basis for diplomatic negotiations and security policies in the times to come.

Along with this, it is expected that in areas like development, trade, climate, and technology cooperation, G20 countries will work together to create a more stable and peaceful world.
