Mogadhishu: General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Army Chief of the African nation of Uganda, has put forward two bizarre demands to Turkey. The first: provide $1 billion—equivalent to approximately 9,000 crore rupees. The second: arrange for his marriage to the most beautiful woman in Turkey. Furthermore, he warned that if these demands are not met within 30 days, he will shut down the Turkish embassy. This matter has become a subject of global discussion.
On April 11, Kainerugaba posted a series of updates on X (formerly Twitter). He stated that for nearly 20 years, Uganda has been fighting against the terrorist organization known as Al-Shabaab in Somalia. This organization is affiliated with Al-Qaeda and has been wreaking havoc in Somalia. Uganda has deployed a significant number of its troops in this conflict, and the struggle has claimed many lives.
Meanwhile, Turkey has undertaken major development projects in Somalia. Turkey has constructed roads, ports, and airports there, generating substantial revenue in the process. Kainerugaba argues that while Turkey profited financially in Somalia, the entire burden of security was borne by Uganda. Therefore, he asserts that Turkey should pay $1 billion—approximately 8,500 crore rupees—a sum he termed a "security share."
In addition to the $1 billion, Kainerugaba wrote that he also wishes to marry the most beautiful woman in Turkey. He noted that this is a personal demand. Although this statement appears to have been made in jest, it has drawn widespread criticism from around the world.
Kainerugaba issued a threat stating that if Turkey fails to accede to his demands within 30 days, Uganda will close down the Turkish embassy. Furthermore, Turkish airlines utilizing Ugandan airspace would be barred from doing so. He also advised all Ugandans against traveling to Turkey.
Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the Chief of the Ugandan Defence Forces—that is, the highest-ranking officer in the entire military. However, he has another distinct identity: he is the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. He is also widely regarded as his father's successor—the next President. He is extremely active on social media and is already well-known for making bizarre statements.
