Islamabad: Amid efforts to end the ongoing tension in the Middle East, a high-level delegation from Iran has reached Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. This team is being led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The objective is clear: to resolve the conflict through diplomatic channels by talking to America.
From the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, senior officials and representatives related to economic policy are included. On behalf of America, Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have come to participate in this conversation.
US President Donald Trump has clearly indicated that if talks fail, Iran may be attacked again. He also reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened soon “with or without Iran”. He also said that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is his biggest priority.
Before leaving, JD Vance took a tough stance, saying Iran should not “play” with the US. He indicated that America is ready if talks are held honestly, but any kind of trickery will be given a strong reaction.
Iran has also made it clear that it is cautious about talks. He says that in past experiences, promises from America were not fulfilled. Iran's main demands include a ceasefire in Lebanon and the freeing of its assets held abroad.
The ongoing conflict in Lebanon remains a major obstacle to these talks. Israel has made clear that it will not discuss a ceasefire with certain organizations, although it has hinted at starting formal peace talks with the Lebanese government.
The situation is complex: mistrust on one side, regional tension on the other. Nevertheless, considering the global pressure and economic impact, it is expected that this conversation can move towards some concrete direction.
This talk in Islamabad is not just about talks between two countries but is related to the stability of the entire region. Now everyone's eyes are on whether both parties can go beyond their terms and reach a common solution.
