Tehran: Tension in West Asia has now taken a new form. Iran says that the attacks launched by America and Israel on it from 28 February 2026 were completely unjustified and without any provocation. Tehran is calling it a “war of aggression” and has now taken the issue to other global forums including the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Razieh Alishawandi, deputy head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), himself said that so far 16 formal letters have been sent to the ICC and other international organizations. These attacks have been strongly condemned and legal action has been demanded against the culprits. The Red Crescent is also sending daily updates to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Federation.
Iran alleges that these attacks are a gross violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. Civilian areas, schools, hospitals and relief centers were targeted, which is against the rules of war.
According to Pir-Hossein Kolivand, head of the Red Crescent, 81,365 civilian properties were damaged across Iran. These include 61,555 houses and 19,050 commercial units. In Tehran alone, 24,605 properties were affected. Apart from this, 498 schools, 275 health centers and many relief facilities were also hit by the attacks.
Iran is saying that ambulances, hospitals and Red Crescent buildings were also attacked. Three Red Crescent helicopters were also damaged. Officials say that due to this, the services which save the lives of common people have been badly affected.
Iran claimed that its naval ship IRIS Dena was also involved in the attacks (although some reports suggested it was sunk by a US submarine near Indian waters).
After the attacks, Iran also launched missile and drone attacks. It targeted several Israeli targets and US military bases in the region. Iran calls it a defense of its sovereignty.
Iran has issued five joint statements with the International Red Cross. Now the eyes of the whole world are on what action ICC takes on this complaint.
The situation is very delicate. On one hand, Iran is demanding justice, on the other hand, tension is increasing regarding retaliatory attacks and the Strait of Hormuz. US President Trump has recently postponed some attacks, but talks are still in the early stages. The global reaction in the coming days will decide the future of this war.
