Tehran: Efforts to reduce the ongoing conflict between America and Iran have suffered a major setback. Despite the mediation of regional countries, the ongoing talks regarding ceasefire have now reached a standstill. According to the latest reports, Iran has distanced itself from the proposed talks, due to which the diplomatic route seems to be almost closed at the moment.
According to sources, Iran has made it clear to the mediating countries that it is not ready to attend any proposed meeting with the US. Especially regarding possible talks in Islamabad, it has expressed its reluctance and termed the American conditions as completely unacceptable.
The role of Pakistan was considered important in this entire incident, which had offered to hold talks between the two countries. However, now that Iran itself has distanced itself from the talks, questions have been raised on the success of this initiative.
US President Donald Trump had recently indicated that talks with Iran were progressing. He had claimed that the talks were in a “good direction," but no concrete information was revealed on this. Now after Iran's denial, this claim has also come under question.
Iran says that the proposal it has received is not in accordance with its conditions. It has rejected it as “impractical and one-sided." Iran alleges that such demands are being imposed on it, which are not possible to accept.
Iran's Foreign Ministry said that whatever messages are coming from America, they are coming only through intermediary countries. The ministry spokesperson stressed that there has been no concrete progress in these messages so far, nor are there any direct talks going on between the two countries.
He clarified that the reports coming in the media that talks are taking place between the two countries are wrong. Currently, Iran is only considering the messages being given through those intermediaries, but at the moment no concrete results are visible.
Although the talks are currently stalled, experts believe that the doors are not completely closed. In view of international pressure and regional instability, there may be attempts for renegotiation in the future.
Looking at the current situation, the fear has increased that the conflict may continue for a long time. As long as both sides remain adamant on their terms, there is little chance of any agreement, which could lead to instability in the region.
