International News: A social media account linked to Israel's intelligence agency Mossad has made serious allegations against Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The account claimed that Khamenei "sleeps half the day and remains in a state of intoxication the rest of the time." The account, called Mossad Persian, wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “How can a leader lead when he sleeps half the day and wastes the other half on drugs? Water, electricity, life!” The post was in Persian and was automatically translated, apparently referring to 86-year-old Khamenei, Israeli news outlet Ynetnews reported.

Role of Mossad Persian account

A verified account named @MossadSpokesman on social media platform X regularly shares critical content against Iran's government to Persian-speaking users. According to Ynetnews, the account serves to spread political messages against the regime in Tehran. Its recent posts, which have been viewed more than 1.9 lakh times, point to ongoing protests against Iran's infrastructure problems, such as water shortages and power cuts. Although Israel has not officially confirmed the account, it is seen as an unofficial messenger from Mossad to Iranian audiences.

Account tip: Use a VPN

Mosad Persian's bio warns users, "For everyone contacting us via private messages, please use a VPN for your safety." Over the past month, the account has posted scathing attacks on Khamenei's health and Iran's leadership.

Khamenei accused of drug use

"The information it shared could only have come from the Mossad," said Benny Sabati, a former IDF Persian language officer and current Iran expert at Israel's Institute for National Security Studies. Khamenei has been accused of drug abuse before. Fox News cited a 2022 comment by Iranian academic Noor Mohammad Omara, in which he claimed on a Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated TV channel in Turkey, "Many viewers don't know this, but Khamenei himself takes drugs."
