Washington: Amidst the ongoing tension in the Middle East for about 38 days, there are now signs of relief in the situation. US President Donald Trump changed his stance at the last moment and announced a ceasefire. Interestingly, this decision was taken just before the deadline in which Iran was warned to surrender or face a major attack.

Did Trump's decision change at the last moment?

Trump was continuously giving strict statements regarding Iran and repeatedly setting deadlines. This time also he had given a clear warning to Tehran. But shortly before the deadline, he showed leniency and announced ceasefire. This is not the first time that he has taken such a decision at the last moment.

Did Pakistan play an important role?

Pakistan's role in this entire incident is under discussion. For the last few days, Pakistan was trying to organize talks between the two countries. It is being told that this solution was found only after talks between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir.

Why did PM Sharif's tweet come into controversy?

Amidst the news of ceasefire, a social media post of Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also came into controversy. In fact, in the post shared from his account, the word “Draft” also appeared. This raised questions as to whether this message was directly from him or had come prepared from somewhere else.

Was the mistake corrected immediately?

However, this controversy did not last long. Shortly after the post was made, it was edited and the “Draft” part was removed. But by then, debate had started on social media and many speculations were being made.

What was said in the post?

Shahbaz Sharif said in his message that diplomatic efforts for peace in the region are intensifying and can yield positive results. He requested Trump extend the deadline by two weeks and also appealed to Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz for the same period.

Whose role is believed to be behind the ceasefire?

Different claims are coming forward on this issue. Some reports say that China played an important role behind the scenes, while many American media organizations believe that Pakistan's mediation was decisive in this agreement.
